Mark 4:23-32

I spread the Word of God.  I urge others to read the Word, study It and ponder It.  I can do no more.  It will grow or not.  It is out of my control.  We can sow but it is God that gives the increase (I Corinthians 3:7).

Those who receive the Word and grow in the Word will produce more seed.  This is God's doing.  I cannot make this happen by my own effort or wisdom.  It is a miraculous work of God beyond my understanding.  The seed sprouts and grows by God's design.

This is the key.  I have heard some say they don't read the Word because they don't understand it.  I won't understand everything I read, but I certainly won't understand any of it if I don't even read it.

When I study the Word, my understanding may be as small as a mustard seed.  But if I plant that tiny seed in my heart, ponder and nurture and apply it to my life, it will grow.  It will grow to an amazing size.  It will grow until one day others will find rest and refuge in the shade of that seed.  To those who have, more will be given.  This scripture isn't about getting more stuff.  This is about hearing the Word and growing in Him.

Just as I don't understand how a seed can become a tree, I will never on this earth completely understand the kingdom of God.  But He will reveal more and more truth to me as I grow in Him, and I grow in Him by planting the Word in my heart.
