"For behold, the day is coming,

Burning like an oven,

And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble.

And the day which is coming shall burn them up," says the Lord of hosts,

"That will leave them neither root nor branch.

But to you who fear My name

The Sun of Righteousness shall arise

With healing in His wings;

And you shall go out

And grow fat like stall-fed calves.

You shall trample the wicked,

For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet

On the day that I do this."

Say the Lord of hosts.

Malachi 4:1-3 (NKJV)

But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.  But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.  The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

II Peter 3:8-9 (NKJV)

Commentary:

God is our Sovereign Lord.  He always keeps His promises (Malachi 3:6; II Corinthians 1:20).  The world may scoff, as they did in the days of Noah, and as they did at the warnings of Lot in Sodom and Gomorrah (II Peter 3:3-7).  God is merciful, and desires that no one will perish, but He is also Holy, Just and Righteous, and judgment will come.  Knowing this, we must take this fact seriously (I Peter 4:7; 5:8) and be diligent to share the gospel message while we can (Matthew 5:14-16; Romans 1:15-16; Ephesians 5:14-16).

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.  And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.  Pray that I may proclaim it clearly as I should.  Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone."

Colossians 4:3-6 (NIV)

The world will scoff.  The world will hate and reject us (John 15:18-19; I John3:13).  But some will hear us and turn to Christ before it is too late (Mark 4:3-8,14-20).  One day, our Lord Jesus will return.  Until then, we must not waste the time He has given us.

Dear God, please send revival to our hearts!

Give me a hunger and thirst for You and Your Word.

Give me an urgent compassion for the lost.

Help me Lord to really put you first!

In God is my salvation and my glory;  The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
